I have been collecting these paper rolls for this planting season to create an efficient paper roll seed box. Start by gathering your materials, which include several empty tissue paper rolls, toilet paper rolls, potting soil, and your choice of vegetable or flower seeds.
First, cut the paper rolls into smaller sections, about 3-4 inches each, to form individual seed boxes. Then, cut four slits on one end and fold it.
Next, fill each section with potting soil, leaving a little space at the top. Once filled, plant two or three seeds per roll, covering them lightly with more soil and labeling them. I sourced the label markers from Amazon. Here is the Link to the label if you would like to buy it.
After planting, water each paper roll carefully to ensure the soil is damp but not soaked.
Place the seed boxes in a sunny location or under grow lights to provide the warmth and light necessary for germination.
As the seeds sprout, monitor the moisture level and provide additional water as needed to ensure vibrant growth.
Finally, once the seedlings are strong enough, these biodegradable seed boxes can be planted directly into the garden or larger pots, enriching the soil and minimizing transplant shock. This project not only promotes sustainability but also fosters a lifelong love of gardening from an early age.
My seedlings have just started to grow; they are tiny, but I have more than three weeks to plant, so I’m hoping they will get bigger.
