Tomato Korma

This is a very delicious side dish for appam, you can use this side dish for idly or dosa too. One of my daughter’s favorite. Please try it, you will definitely like it!


  • Shallots ———————————– 1lb (diced)
  • Tomato ———————————— 3 (diced)
  • Salt to taste
  • For Grinding
  • Grated coconut ———————– 1/4 cup
  • Cumin seeds—————————- 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilies ————————— 2
  • Garlic cloves —————————- 4
  • Cashews ———————————- 6
  • Kasa kasa (poppy seeds) ——- 1 tsp
  • For Tempering
  • Cooking Oil —————————– 1 tbsp
  • Fennel seeds ————————— 1/2 tsp
  • Cinnamon——————————– 1 piece
  • Bay leaf ———————————— 2
  • Clove —————————————- 2
  • Curry leaves —————————- 2 springs

How to make

  • Heat the oil in a pan in medium heat
  • Add bay leaves, cloves, fennel seeds, cinnamon sticks and curry leaves
  • Now add the diced shallots and cook until shallots become tender
  • Add the diced tomatoes, salt, chili powder,turmeric powder and coriander powder
  • Cook until the tomatoes become soft
  • Then add 1 1/2 cups of water and bring it to boil
  • Grind the things under “For Grinding” to make a fine paste
  • Now add the coconut paste and continue to cook for 5 more minutes
  • Then switch off the stove
  • Now the tasty tomato korma is ready to serve
