Begonias are one of my favorites; their bright colors and unique leaves always make me happy. Today, I checked my overwintered begonias, and I felt joy seeing that they are all doing well. It’s rewarding to see them thriving after winter. Now, I need to plant them in pots, taking care to help them grow strong during the blooming season. I kept them in sawdust in a plastic container to keep them dormant and safe. I can’t wait to see them flourish in my garden, adding color and beauty to my space. Here are the steps I followed.
Lifting and Storing Tuberous Begonias
- Step 1. Wait for the first frost or until leaves turn yellow in warm areas.
- Step 2. Cut stems to about 2 inches above the tuber, gently lift the plant, and remove excess soil
- Step 3. For drying and curing allow tubers to dry in a cool, shaded area for several days, then cure for 2–3 weeks to prevent rot
- Step 4.Place tubers in a breathable container with sawdust, keeping them in a dark, frost-free space at 40–50°F
