Today’s recipe is paruppu curry (dal curry)

- Ingredients
- 1/4 cup thoor dal
- 1/4 cup green gram dal
- 6 shallots
- 3 garlic pods
- 1 /2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 green chilies
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- salt to taste
- For seasoning
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 shallots (cut it into small pieces)
- 2 red chilies
- curry leaf
How to make
- Take a pressure cooker and add the dals
- Dry roast the dals for few minutes and add 2.5 cups of water
- Then add the shallots, garlic pods and turmeric powder
- Close the pressure cooker lid and keep it in the medium flame
- Wait for two whistles and switch off the stove
- In the mean time, grind the coconut, green chilies and cumin seeds into a coarse mixture (please do not make a smooth paste)
- Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and add the coconut mixture into the dal and cook it for another 5 minutes without closing the cooker
- Take a small frying pan, add the oil and mustard seeds
- Once the mustard seeds start crackling, add the remaining seasoning items to it.
- Then pour the seasoning on the dal curry in the cooker
- Now it is ready to serve with rice
