Sprouted Palm seed

Every time when we visit India, I surely wanted to eat this, the white spongy thing (inside the sprouted palm (palmyra) tree seed). The palm tree is called “panai maram” in Tamil, it is mostly single trunk tall tree. Once the fruits are ripen, they fall down in the ground and after some time it will start to sprout. We need to cut the hard sprouted seed to get the soft spongy inside.
The new generation of people might not have gotten a chance to taste this, if you get a chance to eat, please try it. We locally call it “Thavun”. It has it’s one unique taste, I don’t know how to compare it with other foods, but you can slightly compare it with sprouted coconut.
