Ginger Chutney/ Thuvaiyal

This is a quick and easy recipe with ginger. And it is a very tasty chutney too. People have used ginger in cooking since ancient times. Basically ginger has lots of medicinal benefits, so I try to use it in my cooking everyday. Try it and if you like, please let me know.

  • Ginger —————————- one big piece
  • Grated coconut ————- 1/2 cup
  • Crushed jaggery ———– 1 tsp
  • Tamarind ———————- tiny ball size
  • Dry chilies———————- 2
  • Garlic pod ———————- 1
  • Cumin seeds —————— 1/2 tsp
  • Cooking oil ——————— 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste

How To Make

  • Wash the ginger, peel the skin off and cut it into small pieces
  • Heat the oil in a heavy bottom pan and add the ginger pieces
  • Stir fry until it becomes light golden color about 4 minutes
  • Now add all the ingredients into a mixer and grind it into medium fine paste (no need to add water)

  • I usually have this with kanji
  • An additional side dish with Idli or dosa
  • Sometimes use it as side dish for rice too
