Egg Biryani

Egg biryani is one of our favorite foods and I make it often in our home. Whenever we have vegetarian guests, who eat eggs, this is my first option. It is easy to make and very tasty. In this post, I am providing step-by-step instructions, so even the beginners can give it a try.

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice ———————— 1 1/2 cup
  • Eggs ————————————- 4 (boiled and cut in half)
  • White onion ———————— 1 (thin sliced)
  • Tomato ——————————— 1 (finely cut)
  • Green chilies ———————– 2 (cut it lengthwise)
  • Coconut milk ———————- 1/4 cup
  • Mint & cilantro cubes ——— 2
  • Ginger & garlic paste ———- 2 tsp
  • Chili powder ———————— 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder —————- 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder ————— 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala ——————— 1/2 tsp
  • Cinnamon stick —————— 2
  • Bay leaves —————————- 2
  • Cooking oil ————————— 1 tbsp
  • Ghee ————————————– 1 tbsp
  • Cilantro for garnishing
  • Salt to taste
  • For Roasting Eggs
    • Black pepper —————– 1/2 tsp
    • Indian chili powder —— 1/4 tsp
    • Turmeric powder ———- 1/4 tsp
    • Cooking oil ——————— 1 tsp

How To Make

  • Wash the rice and keep it aside
  • Heat a 5qt pressure cooker in medium heat
  • Add one table spoon of cooking oil and one table spoon of ghee
  • Now add the cinnamon stick and bay leaves and wait for few seconds
  • Then add the thinly sliced onions and cook it until onion become tender
  • Now add the tomato, ginger & garlic paste, mint & cilantro cubes and all the spices
  • Mix them all and cook for seven minutes
  • Now add the coconut milk and 2 3/4 cups of water and wait until it boils
  • Add the washed rice and salt and close the cooker with lid
  • Wait for the steam to come from the pressure cooker
  • Now put on the weight and switch off the stove (for electric stove)
  • If you are using gas stove, wait for 5 minutes and switch off the stove
  • Once the pressure cooker is cooled down, open the pressure cooker

Preparing The Eggs

  • Heat the oil in a medium size wide pan and turn the heat to low
  • Add the spices and wait for couple of seconds
  • Now add the egg pieces and carefully flip them back and forth, so that the spices will coat evenly on both the sides
  • Then arrange the egg pieces on top of the biryani and garnish with cilantro
  • Serve with onion or cucumber raita
