Broccoli And Moong Dal Stir-Fry

Broccoli is a great vegetable to prepare side dishes with dals. So, when I cook broccoli, I try with different kinds of dals to explore the different tastes. I often make this broccoli and moong dal stir-fry as side dish for rice. It is very simple to make and tasty too.

Ingredients

  • Broccoli —————————— 1 big flower head
  • Moong dal ————————– 1/2 cup
  • Indian chili powder ———– 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic cloves ———————- 4 (sliced)
  • Turmeric powder ————— 1/4 tsp
  • Grated coconut —————— 1/4 cup
  • For Tempering
    • Cooking oil ——————- 2 tsp
    • Mustard seeds ————- 1/2 tsp
    • Cumin seeds —————- 1/2 tsp
    • Split urad dal ————— 1/2 tsp

How To Make

  • Heat a cup of water in a small sauce pan
  • Add the washed moong dal, little salt and a pinch of turmeric powder
  • Cook it until the moong dal becomes tender (about 10 minutes) and keep it aside
  • Chop the broccoli into small pieces
  • Heat a wide pan and do the tempering with the ingredients listed for tempering
  • Now add the chopped garlic pieces and stir it for a minute
  • Then add the chopped broccoli and stir it for couple of minutes in high heat
  • Then add the chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and mix them well
  • Then add the cooked moong dal and mix it (if there is excess water from cooking the moong dal, drain it before adding)
  • Then add the grated coconut, mix it well and turn off the stove
  • Don’t overcook the broccoli, the stir-fry process will take only five minutes
  • When you are eating the broccoli, it should be little bit crunchy
