Broccoli is a great vegetable to prepare side dishes with dals. So, when I cook broccoli, I try with different kinds of dals to explore the different tastes. I often make this broccoli and moong dal stir-fry as side dish for rice. It is very simple to make and tasty too.

Ingredients
- Broccoli —————————— 1 big flower head
- Moong dal ————————– 1/2 cup
- Indian chili powder ———– 1/4 tsp
- Garlic cloves ———————- 4 (sliced)
- Turmeric powder ————— 1/4 tsp
- Grated coconut —————— 1/4 cup
- For Tempering
- Cooking oil ——————- 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds ————- 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds —————- 1/2 tsp
- Split urad dal ————— 1/2 tsp

How To Make
- Heat a cup of water in a small sauce pan
- Add the washed moong dal, little salt and a pinch of turmeric powder
- Cook it until the moong dal becomes tender (about 10 minutes) and keep it aside
- Chop the broccoli into small pieces
- Heat a wide pan and do the tempering with the ingredients listed for tempering
- Now add the chopped garlic pieces and stir it for a minute
- Then add the chopped broccoli and stir it for couple of minutes in high heat
- Then add the chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and mix them well
- Then add the cooked moong dal and mix it (if there is excess water from cooking the moong dal, drain it before adding)
- Then add the grated coconut, mix it well and turn off the stove
- Don’t overcook the broccoli, the stir-fry process will take only five minutes
- When you are eating the broccoli, it should be little bit crunchy
