I already posted the recipe of yam roast. This one is a different kind of preparation and it is a common side dish for rice in our hometown.

Ingredients
- Fresh or Frozen yam ———– 300 g
- Shallots ——————————— 10
- Grated coconut ——————– 1/3 cup
- Chili powder ————————- 1/4 tsp
- Turmeric powder —————– 1/4 tsp
- Garam masala powder ——– 1/4 tsp
- For Grinding
- Grated coconut —————- 1/3 cup
- Cumin seeds ——————– 1/2 tsp
- Garlic pods ———————– 4
- For Tempering
- Cooking oil ———————– 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds —————– 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal —————————- 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds ——————– 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaf ————————– 1 spring
How to make
- Place a pan on medium heat stove
- Add oil and mustard seeds
- Once it crackles, add the urad dal, curry leaf and the sliced shallots
- Add the yam pieces, spice powders and 1/2 cup of water
- Cook it until the yam pieces are well cooked (around 15 minutes)
- In the meantime, make the coconut paste
- Grind all things in the grinding list into a coarse mixture using a mixer/blender
- Add this coconut mixture in the pan
- Cook for 3 more minutes and switch off the stove
- Now it should be ready to eat
- Serve it with rice
